Alice & Bob reported macroscopic bit-flip lifetimes exceeding one hour on its bosonic cat-qubit hardware. In a single-qubit test device the average idle bit-flip lifetime was 44 minutes (95% CI: 33–60 min) measured over 61 hours with 41 quantum jumps, and on the 12-qubit Helium 2 processor individual cats showed lifetimes of 189 to 252 minutes. The devices use a galvanic cat design with an average photon number ⟨n⟩ = 11, achieving a Z-gate fidelity of 94.2% in 26.5 ns. Phase-flip lifetime was measured at 420 ns. The results confirm that idle-period bit-flip rates of roughly once per hour meet the concatenated distance-3 code threshold needed for fault-tolerant Shor’s algorithm runs, though two-qubit entangling gates remain to be demonstrated. 1

Alice & Bob Demonstrates Multi-Hour Physical Bit-Flip Suppression on Single-Cat and Helium 2 Processors
⚠️ Critical Alert
Why This Matters
If you are following bosonic quantum processors, you should note that the reported hour-scale bit-flip stability means idle qubits now operate within the error-correction threshold, but you still need to watch for future results on entangling gate performance.
