IBM, the University of Chicago, the State of Illinois and the Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park have unveiled an on-premises IBM Quantum System Two in Chicago. The system, powered by IBM’s flagship Quantum Nighthawk 120-qubit square-lattice processor with fast active reset and dynamic pulse-level control, is initially operational at Hyde Park Labs and hosted by the University of Chicago. It will serve as the anchor hardware platform for the National Quantum Algorithm Center before moving to the permanent IQMP campus. The deployment gives Illinois-based collaborators low-latency runtime for deep, error-mitigated circuits and supports Grand Challenges projects in drug-discovery, power-grid optimization and fundamental physics. IBM also announced the FutureNow Chicago center at IQMP, partnered with City Colleges of Chicago, to train local practitioners and support 750 regional technology jobs across quantum computing, cybersecurity and data science. 1
