Lumen Technologies (NYSE: LUMN) announced a dual initiative to advance quantum network transport and post-quantum cryptography (PQC) for enterprises. The company will fund research with The Ohio State University (OSU) to study long-range single-photon and entangled-state propagation over deployed optical fiber, as well as quantum sensing protocols that monitor seismic shifts and cable strain. At the same time, Lumen is embedding Fortinet’s FortiOS/FortiGate PQC libraries—standardized under FIPS 203 (ML-KEM) and FIPS 204 (ML-DSA)—into its managed Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) solution, offering a crypto-agile path away from RSA and elliptic-curve cryptography. A customer preview of the PQC-enabled SASE begins in November 2026, with general availability planned for January 2027. The effort also includes a pilot with Emerald AI to steer AI workloads based on power-grid availability. 1

Lumen Expands Quantum Footprint with Ohio State Fiber Research and Fortinet PQC SASE Rollout
⚠️ Critical Alert
Why This Matters
If you rely on Lumen’s network services, you should watch the November 2026 preview and consider how the integrated PQC SASE could protect your data from harvest-now, decrypt-later attacks.
